wednesday 20 july. supposed to meet sumi n duan hui for another east coast cycling trip. but me feel sick. aching all over. so i decided to take my temperature. 37.7. considered kinda high, even for my usual standards. so had to cancel. stay at home and rest. by evening, temperature was already very high. 39.5. so no choice, must go see doc. so went to rapha. too late to get blood test so didn't at that time. got medicine etc. went home and rest.
couple of days later, still no better. temperature reaching all time high of 40 plus. so go back to rapha. take blood test. got more horrible tasting medicines. supposed to be damn powerful. but taste horrigible. worked i guess cos temperature went down. feel better. blood test results came out. it was ok. blood platelets a bit on the low side but doc say nothing to worry about yet. had to stay at home the entire weekend. not that i felt like going anywhere anyway.
then monday. horrible day. went for nus matriculation in the morning. horrible morning. first was car sick cos ah ku drove me to nus. then had to stand in line for forever before i could hand in the documents. feel very very sick by then. hand in the documents aldy, thought can go home. but cannot. they forced us to go for some 'cca' tour where there were a billion people pushing pamphlets and stuff into your face. felt like fainting. still haven't gotten over car sick. then rushed to rapha for another blood test in the afternoon. took taxi which intensified the car sick. so felt like vomitting.
anyway, after blood test, went home but can't relax yet. have to sort out all the stupid stuff that the nus people gave. mummy went down to rapha to get the test results. bad news. it's dengue. have to go hospital immediately. sigh. sigh. sigh.
so ah ku sent me to tan tock seng. (this was around 9 plus pm). my platelets were about 80. which is considered low. met this doc that said that actually if i wasn't having my menses, he'd send me home. he was telling me that when he had dengue (in the philippines) his platelet count was 5 before he finally went to hospital. anyway, so i was forced to hang around the A&E until they could find a bed for me. and it was around 12 plus already.
finally, around 1am, i was told that i would be transferred to CDC2 building, not the main ttsh. rode an ambulance there with another dengue patient (in the bed) n the nurse. the ambulance was scary. the door suddenly opened in mid journey. the bed could have rolled out if it wasn't secured down. anyway, had to wear a mask and went up to the ward. the room i was in had 2 others also.
doc came in. and put in a drip for me. sigh. hated it. pain. pokey pokey with my hand. and he drew this huge syringe of blood. gosh. i'm half asleep by then actually. 2+am. much later on, almost 3, finally they're all done. i can go to sleep now. but can't sleep. the drip thing is in the way. so uncomfortable. my hand very cold. sigh.
newae, morning wake up, cannot brush teeth. cos they scared we'll start bleeding and can't stop. so we get mouth gargle instead. tastes bad. breakfast sucks too. oats. i couldn't get the thing open. had to call the nurse in to open the bowl for me. but i didn't finish it. can't stand oats. no blood test for today. the girl in the bed opposite me got discharged. visiting hours at 12-2pm. mummy n daddy came. lunch sucked. couldn't finish it. anyway, after visiting hours, sleep until the next visiting hours at 5-8pm.
every now and then, they came in n take temperature and blood pressure. and that's my problem. cos my temperature always was higher in the evening. so they'd give me 2 panadol. or throw a damp cloth on my head and tell me to rest and drink water. i can do that at home, i was thinking. the nurses were quite nice. most of them are filipino. which was a problem when my new roommate spoke chinese only. i'd spend the day, sleeping, reading "harry potter n the half blood prince" (which was a bit of a disappointment. but that's another story), or watching tv. i was the only one with a tv cos i was supposed to be in a B1 ward. but ended up in a normal ward, n they pushed in a tv for me. ok. watched the repeat of american idol at 5pm. cheered up a little cos i saw the episode when clay was there! sure it was a bit chaotic in the room at that time n i couldn't hear what ryan was telling but still. sigh. seeing him brightened up my day a bit.
anyway, wednesday, my platelet count went up to 71 from 57. darn. cos the minimum point is 80 then i can go home. missed by a bit. sad. next day, the count went up above 80. but i got the feeling that i still wouldn't be discharged. cos in the morning, the docs came and talked to my other 2 room mates, n they were taken off the drip but i wasn't. sigh. the doc told me that they would wait until 5pm n see how's my temperature. n unlucky me, the temperature didn't allow me to be discharged. so sad.
cos the other 2 had gone home already, they transferred me to another room. turns out it's the room with that woman that i shared the ambulance with. the new room was smaller. the door was half glass, meaning every tom dick n harry walking past can see every single thing happening in the room. and it's near the nurses' station. which makes it noisy. had to pull the bed curtain when i want to sleep. sleep wasn't too bad then cos i got used to the stupid drip. but that night, in the middle of the freaking night, i discovered that my new room mate snored. loudly. sigh. lucky i'm used to sumi, if not i'd be kept awake the rest of the night. :D
anyway, next morning, doc came to take blood. this is the only take blood that i vividly remember. cos he came in, prepare everything. one, two, three, needle in. ok, no problem. then, he took the phial thing to collect the blood. (i wasn't looking btw) then, he started poking here and poking there with the needle. that's not right. what the heck is he doing?! he starts complaining, the blood not coming out. what??!??!?!!!! he continues digging at my arm. bloody fucker. pain leh! finally, he tells me that the phial spoil. lao huang. so he sends the cleaner to get a new one. the needle is still in my arm btw. so he's holding on to the needle with one hand, the other hand telling the cleaner aunty where to get another phial. there i was thinking, "hello? hurry up can or not??" idiot.
anyway, finally he's done. check check. no problems. temperature normal. discharge!! yay!!
right. end of account for now. more edits if i remember anything.

why do celebs show up in weird places?
the other day, i was at BK parkway for dinner. and i thought i saw taufik behind the counter. seriously. that guy that was serving me looked like taufik at at first glance, i thought it was taufik. but then i decided, why the heck would taufik be working at BK? maybe it's his younger brother or something.
then today, i saw this picture...

clay behind the counter at a mcdonalds.
and i think. maybe i did see taufik at BK after all.

bits of news
lazy to update but nothing better to do. still messing around with skins. still have yet to find a skin that i really like. wish i know how to create my own skin. then don't have to dig around blogskins.com anymore.
anyway, the confirmation was last sunday. i guess it could be considered a success. the church was so packed. the only time i know it's this packed is easter and christmas. :D randall did quite well, considering the stressful circumstances. the archbishop looked half asleep most of the time. mother said that the homily was exactly the same as when he gives confirmation in other churches. the whole foo family came down. that's andrew's godfamily. yep andrew and me's god parents are not the same. guess me a bit stress cos people like christina and cecilia all looking at me. me's inferiority complex. :p but things turned out great.
confirmation names were very erm...interesting. especially the girls' names. i mean, what happened to plain 'mary'? no insult to anyone. the names are real classy and all. i just gotta find out what these never heard before names mean. owners of the names kindly enlighten me if my research is wrong.
aaroneah - (hebrew, arabic) shining light, high mountain, messanger [i'm assuming this is the female rendering of aaron. i cannot find aaroneah anywhere.]
angelique - (french) angelic [easiest name to search for]
joseanne - (hebrew) god will increase [assuming this is a variation of josephine. again, can't find joseanne anywhere]
annika - (hindu) very beautiful, graceful [assuming this is a variation of anika]
elvin was asking if i had a confirmation name. no i didn't. what for? i like irene very much thanks. but if you people want to come up with a post-confirmation name for me then let me know. i'm curious to know what name you think suits me.
reading clifford's blog about being the only one left from his 'generation'. i guess i know how that feels. from my generation, there's only me and elvin left. maybe christina hangs around now and then but i never see her anymore. never see anyone from lynette's generation of choir either. alone...so alone.... :D (i'm acting pathetic btw.) but seriously. why is it that so many people just disappear from church after confirmation? forget it. now the time has come for the LC generation to take center stage.
other stuff. duan hui gave me some interesting news the other day. she's in to horoscope and stuff. and she told me that the four of us, she, me, sumi and poh lin, our horoscope elements form a complete harmony. fire (sumi), air (poh lin), earth (duan hui), water (me). so interesting. no wonder we're so good friends. for those who're interested, character attributes of the elements...
fire - inspiration, action
air - intellectual, idea level
earth - practicality, security, foundation in the material world
water - emotional, intuitive
london bombing. they call it the 7/7 bombing in TIME. we were reflecting, lucky me and ah ma didn't go anywhere after all. cos we were so keen on going london. we might have been there and caught in the bombing. touch wood. thinking about chin lin also. she's going to study in london soon. stay safe gal. lucky the terrorists didn't decide to bomb the esplanade. they would have struck top prize. imagine, lee hsien loong, tony blair, princess anne, the spanish princess, hilary clinton, beckham, russian pm (i think he was there), IOC jacque rogge. woah. really top prize. and esplanade isn't exactly an inconspicuous target. i was passing by raffles city the other day, woah, the security there. i even saw a portable x-ray machine. really taking no chances.
school's starting very soon. don't know whether to celebrate or not. on the one hand, it's the end of boredom. on the other, means, end of slacking. and i don't know what i'm going to do in uni. sigh. can't make up my mind lah. really wanted to do genetics. but since i can't, no point moaning about lost opportunities. that chance was lost 2 years ago.
meanwhile, hanging out on the net. the clay aiken fan club is up. but can't join cos no credit card. sigh. got an email from RCA/clay about it cos i joined the mailing list. never mind. life's like that. don't think he'll ever come singapore anyway. i'll have to be satisfied with downloading clack. and drooling over the videos and pics like i did for david copperfield.
sumi says she's got her new contact lenses. and she says she takes only 15 minutes to put both on. wow. lucky her. it took me at least half hour for one side back then. on the subject of eye sight, duan hui was so pleased to tell me that her eyesight's improved. both degrees dropped. verena went for lasik the other day. she can now see without visual aids. lucky. i don't think i can stand anyone messing around with my eyeball.
i've always wondered, what happens when a person goes for eye surgery. i mean, can the person see exactly what the doc is doing to the eye? scary. imagine seeing the knife thing poking your eye. *shudder* i also wonder what happens if someone wearing contacts goes into coma. i mean, you're not supposed to sleep with the lens on. so what happens then? does the doc remove the lenses, or does the person keep on wearing them and then go blind after waking up from coma? morbid thoughts.
desperate housewives ended. sadly. i love that show. but i find the ending a bit unsatisfactory. kinda like the smallville endings. it resolves one problem but there are still other problems. like, is zach actually mike's son? does susan marry mike? who's baby is gabrielle carrying? does bree find out about what george did to rex? what's the story behind that black family that just moved in? can't wait for the next season.
love my new video at the side. it's tara lipinsky (i think. can't remember her surname very well) when she was featured on 'touched by an angel'. beautiful. i was actually looking for 'walk with you' that della resse sang. it's amazing how difficult it is to look for something that isn't mainstream music on the net. but this one isn't bad. i just love it. shi yun says the girl is flying. and i think, yes, i didn't notice it that way, but she does resemble a swan floating in the clouds. so graceful and confident. she looks like she's really really enjoying herself. like ice skating is the one thing that matters to her. beautiful. i never thought ice skating was like that. but then, the only ice skating i've come into contact with is 'the mighty ducks'. movie about a ice hockey team.
supposed to clear my closets. i sort of have but piles of unwanted/unworn clothes and plastic bagsare still lying around my room. can't believe how many unworn tshirts i have. i don't even remember buying so many. darn. don't know what to do with them.
right. all for now. drooling over very very HOT downloaded clack. :D
p.s. blogsurfing and i gotta recommend everyone to look at the 'Lecherous Broads' site. it's under Destinations. there's this twist of 'She Bangs' becoming 'He Blogs'. so creative.

coasta sands east coast.
out of my infinite laziness, i've put off writing about the chalet i recently had. so now, i'm going to show you in photo form with some narration in between. long post so get comfortable.
first day, monday. got everything ready, rush rush. i was still packing my bag in the morning and the chalet was in the afternoon. took a taxi there cos i had to carry the idiot 6kg bbq pit. and, how wonderful, it rained. :p so the 4 of us got wet walking from the reception area to the chalet. luckily the rain stopped later. duan hui and sumi decided to go to bedok to buy more supplies. so me and poh lin were left in the chalet. clean the place a bit, play a bit. that girl is a connect 4 pro. anyway, we got tired of waiting so we went for a walk. as we were returning, i got the news that people were starting to arrive. and we were far far away from the chalet. so had to, sort of, rush back. we stopped by the shop to buy ice cream first. anyway, went there, zaidah and group and mei xiu were there. so opened up the chalet and started to get ready for the bbq. found out that there wasn't enough stuff to make the drinks (ribena), so zaidah, mei xiu n group went out to buy ice and stuff. mean time, poh lin started the fire, duan hui and sumi got back and we got stuff ready. it was a blast!

we planned a surprise belated birthday party for poh lin. since we couldn't get a cake, we got ice cream instead. kinda weird i guess. but all the guests managed to get a bit of ice cream. like dessert. sumi said that poh lin was so touched by it that she was tearing. pity i was carrying the ice cream and couldn't take pictures.

sumi brought sparklers. the mj crowd went out to a dark spot of the beach and played. so fun.

still feeling high, we went 'wading' in the water. :D after the guests left at around 11pm, the 4 of us cleaned up and got ready for bed.

see poh lin's hair dryer in the corner? she was having fun disturbing the rest of us with it. the toy tigger was poh lin's belated birthday present. ain't it cute? all 4 of us were fighting over it for the whole chalet.

but too excited to sleep, we played uno until 3+am. duan hui wanted to talk xing shi. but we were too hyper to talk about sober things. when we finally decided to turn in, me and duan hui couldn't sleep cos sumi began sleep talking very loudly. sigh.
next day, tuesday. poh lin had to go to ntu for her med check. and i had to go home and get my battery charger for my camera. we all woke up early to see the sunrise but unfortunately, the sky kept getting brighter and brighter without any definate sunrise. anyway, after bread and butter and milo breakfast that sumi made to make up for her sleep talking, me and poh lin set off. i was making for the underpass near vj. but couldn't find it. (i would later find that it was actually right outside the reception area) so we crossed a overhead bridge to the main road. poh lin went to paya lebar mrt, i went home. at home, showered, then decided to sleep a while while waiting for my batteries to charge. and i overslept. anyway, i went back after lunch.

went swimming in the afternoon. poh lin had gone kayaking. my first time in the pool in 6 years. not too bad experience. and i realised that what i had learnt was the free style. and that is supposedly a difficult stroke. surprising. i mean, i was just pri 3 when i learnt. and i didn't know the supposedly basic breast stroke. :D haha! anyway, duan hui wanted to get into the pool but couldn't cos she didn't have a swimsuit. so me and her changed clothes. first time me wearing clothes without bra. gosh. interesting experience. i decided to go back to the chalet to change cos i was dripping wet. poh lin came back from kayaking. they were trying to teach duan hui how to swim. and for a first lesson, it wasn't too bad.

after swimming, went back to prepare dinner.

that fire duan hui made was so hot!!! the satay stick burst into flames when we first put it on. the wire grill was sagging from the heat. we had to change it to the new wire. i'm sure it's the only time when people bbqing had to wait for the fire to cool down before cooking. so we had to eat a lot of burnt, uncooked food. cos the outside would burn while the inside would still be cold. yuck. we sat outside to eat dinner. there was this stray cat that was sitting there, mewing with a pathetic look. aiyo.
after dinner, we decided to go bowling. and book bicycle. embarrassing moment, i fell off a stationary bike. seriously. i was getting off and somehow i lost control of the bike and the thing fell over and i fell over too. ;p got two very painful bruises on my shin. ow! anyway, bowling. first time bowling for real. quite fun. of course, lots of gutter balls. so excited when i finally hit something. poh lin and sumi were neck to neck, just one point apart. i can't remember who won. sumi i think. duan hui was taking her own sweet time, posing/pretending to pose with the ball. lucky we were far away from the other bowlers. they were so pro. while we... less said, the better. no pics here cos so difficult to take pics at a bowling alley. only got pics of people's butt.
it was after bowling that things got a bit bad. there was a quarrel between duan hui and sumi about cycling. from my understanding, it was a misunderstanding. but they were very upset over the whole thing. and our anticipated night cycling and sparklers part 2 was canned. the two of them were not talking and it was very very awkward situation. me and poh lin became mediator, sort of. at least, in the end, the two of them had a heart to heart. me and poh lin were sitting downstairs watching late night "band of brothers" on tv and eating longan. very tired but couldn't go to sleep cos the two of them were upstairs sorting things out. i don't know what happened upstairs. i don't want to know. but i'm glad that they made it up. by then it was already very very late. don't know the time but it was single digit hours of the morning. duan hui made us play a game of uno with her. she kept making noise, playing with the hair dryer, the music speakers...until we gave in and played with her. one game only. we all desperately tried to end the game so we could sleep.
we slept very well that night. so well that we all overslept. we were supposed to get up at 6 to see the sunrise and have a leisurely macdonalds breakfast and morning cycle and slowly clean up and pack. but we all slept until 7.30 when sumi woke us up to tell us we overslept. the sky looked kinda threatening. strong winds and all. we were wondering if we should still go out. what if it rained halfway? poh lin was going to go and buy back for us. but we decided that it wouldn't rain yet. so we all piled onto the bicycles and set off. i didn't bring my camera and i regret that.
why did i regret? cos when we were on the way, there was a beautiful rainbow in the sky. it stretched all the way from the horizon on the sea, across the sky to the flats on the other side. a genuine full rainbow. beautiful. i'd never seen a rainbow like that in singapore.
went for our morning cycle after breakfast. didn't have much time though. the sea looked so mysterious. so foggy. reminded me of priates of the caribbean. adventure on the high seas. the mist was hiding some ships from view. we went and stood on the sea wall on the way back to the chalet. the wind was so strong, like in england lake district. it was drizzling. or was it the sea spray? anyway, that was a magic moment. i wish i had the camera. but too late to regret. one ang moh fella was smiling at poh lin cos she didn't tie her hair and she was cycling with hair all over her face. i think he was so amused.
well, had to rush back. returned the bikes and went back to clean up. had to clean the bbq set. packed up and cleaned up the best we could. wished we could stay longer. it was fun. maybe next time we can go overseas together. looking forward to that one. :D

Touched By An Angel - I Will Walk With You
This is the story of the finale of the series Touched By An Angel. I found it so touching, i just had to share it. Hopefully i manged to convey the storyline as well as when i watched it.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Monica walks out of the Nevada desert and sits on a wooden bench by the side of the road. Suddenly, Tess appears next to her. It is Monica's last assignment. She's going to be evaluated for promotion to the post of supervisor. She is very excited. She can't wait to work together with Tess, her own supervisor. Unfortunately, Tess has to impart to her the news that she has been training Monica, not to be her assistant but to be her replacement. Tess would be moving on to a new post and Monica was to take her place.
Monica is, of course, upset about this. But she has to accept that. Tess is here to give her her final assignment. They are at the same place where Monica was given her first assignment at a case worker. And her instructions are the same. Get on the bus and go where the Father tells you to go.
Monica is, of course, upset about this. But she has to accept that. Tess is here to give her her final assignment. They are at the same place where Monica was given her first assignment at a case worker. And her instructions are the same. Get on the bus and go where the Father tells you to go.
The bus comes. Monica tearily says goodbye to Tess and boards the bus. On the way, she meets Zach. Zach looks like a respectable vagrant. He says that he's a wandering handyman, going wherever there's work for him, never staying long in anytown. He also tells Monica that the bus' destination is the town of Ascension. Monica seems to recognise the name of the town. Meantime, a black car trails the bus.
When they arrive at Ascension, they realise that something is not right. The town is in disarray. There are signs of life and yet it appears lifeless. It is Saturday and the streets are totally devoid of children. The church is boarded up and the signs are broken. Monica and Zach enter the cafe for coffee. Monica recognises some of the people there. They were her previous 'assignments'. There is still the sense that something is not right. The cafe is bleak, silent. The sheriff comes up and greets Monica. He remembers her. A retarded young man, Joey, silently gives Monica a hug and refuses to let go for a long time.
With Monica's questioning, the sheriff tells that a terrible tragedy occured at the town the previous year. Being a small town, all the children attended the same school. One day, during lunchtime, the school's boiler in the cafeteria exploded. 46 students and 8 teachers were killed. The town's children were killed. The only survivors were those who were sick at home. The sheriff himself had lost his wife who was a teacher. The town's mayor takes Monica around the town. The streets are littered with reminders of children, their toys, pictures, bikes. No one has the heart to remove them. It is too painful for them. The school is just a blackened shell standing in an abandoned lot.
The mayor takes Monica and Zach to the doctor's office to visit. The lady doctor has a bulletin board where the pictures of all the victims were tacked up. She tells that she had delivered all of them, and their parents too. The pastor shows them the Easter Egg book that his daughter had. He constantly carries it around with him. They were supposed to make Easter eggs when she came home from school. Unfortunately, she never did. Monica reminds the pastor of the story of Easter. On Friday, Death came. On Sunday, Life came. In between, there was a long and painful Saturday. The pastor agreed, the town was stuck in Saturday.
They then go to the mayor's house. An old lady, the town's piano teacher is engrossed in her own 'investigations' about the tragedy. She seems to have lost her mind. The mayor said that she had taught all the children and since the tragedy, she no longer played the piano or made any music.
Zach sets out to try to find work in the town. He first helps the old lady fix her piano stool. He doesn't charge for his service but asks her to play a tune for him. She does. She plays and sings along. It is a sound that has not been heard for a long time. He helps the doctor to fix her door. As repayment, he asks her to care for a kitten that he found. He finds and returns the teddy bear that used to belong to Joey, that Joey turned to for comfort. He helps the pastor fix up the church sign. The pastor stops carrying the book around.
Meanwhile, the town realises that the little momentoes of the children left lying around have vanished. The toys are missing, the bulletin board has been stripped bare of its photos. It brings back the question of the tragedy. Who was the murderer? An informal gathering in the cafe reveals that Joey had seen a stranger in the school on that day.
One evening, the mayor calls a town meeting. A man from a real estate company wants to buy the town for redevelopment. Many of the towns people are in favour of selling and leaving. There are too many painful memories in this town. But there are some that have their doubts about moving. Zach feels that there is still the possibility of life returning to the town. Many of the people were bitter about him interfering in their town. They had already inferred that he was the one who had been 'stealing' their late children's things. And matters explode when a town's man recognises Zach as being a stranger in town on the day of the tragedy. The real estate agent also claims to have seen Zach coming out of the school. The body almost becomes a mob ready to lynch Zach. The sheriff takes Zach into custody and locks him in a cell, for his own safety.
Monica is confused by the series of events. She knows that something important is happening. There are so many of her old 'assignments' here. But she can't fathom what the link between them is. She wishes that Tess was around to guide her. The angel of death, Andrew appears. Monica asks him if he was there on that day. Andrew says that it wasn't him. The school that day was in someone else's care. Monica comments that is must have been difficult, taking all those children that day.
Meantime, the black car drives up to the cafe. Monica is inside with the mayor. A man steps out. A big sized man dressed in a black business suit, wearing stylish sunglasses. Monica sees him and her expression changes. She asks the mayor, if he belives that there are forces of good in the world, there are also forces of evil present, if God is totally Love, the Devil is totally Evil. The Devil had just arrived in Ascension. The Devil enters the cafe and sees Monica inside. Monica defiantly challenges him, telling him that ultimately, evil cannot win. The Devil gives her a knowing smile telling her that while there is good in the town, there is still enough evil for him to play around with.
Zach is put on trial. The Devil is the proscueting lawyer. He presents a strong proscecution argument. He paints the picture of a serial murderer. He highlights the point that serial murderers often retain tokens or trophies which consist of their victim's belongings. Zach had admitted that he had borrowed the children's toys but refused to say why. He also admitted that he had been in town on that day on business. What business, he didn't reveal. The Devil also revealed that Zach had been present in other towns where mysterious explosions had also taken place in schools. The Devil ends his argument with a bible quote, John 10:10 "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy", and a victorious smile aimed at the defense.
The mayor defends Zach. His is a more humanitarian approach. He reminds the jury of the good that Zach had done in the town in his small way. He suggests that the town is using Zach as a scapegoat for their own guilt. The school's boiler was old and rusted and liable to explode on its own. But the town had not done anything about it. Because of their guilt, knowing that the tragedy could have been averted if they had done something, the town was now trying to push the blame onto an innocent stranger.
As the jury withdrew to consider the verdict, the town's people gather in the cafe. They now have doubts as to Zach's guilt. They agree that in a small way, Zach had tried to bring healing to their town. The jury is taking a very long time to reach a decision.
The scene changes to Zach in prison. He is playing the guitar the sheriff lent him. He wants to return the guitar to the sheriff but the sheriff tells him to take his time. He doesn't play the guitar anymore. It brings too many memories back. He asks Zach if there is anything he could do. Zach asks him to pray. Zach asks him to take his guitar and lift up his song as a prayer, singing and music being the ultimate prayer. The sheriff seems reluctant. Later on, the sheriff does play. He sings a simple country song of praise. With this music as background, the scene shows the various townspeople. The mayor deciding that it was time the pastor opened up the church. The people telephoned each other and met outside the boarded up church.
They pulled off the boards that closed the church door. As they entered, each of them knelt or sat down and prayed. As they came to the altar, they saw a memorial there. All the missing things were there. A photo of the owner was attached to each item. They lay at the altar, beneath an open bible and lighted candles. Beautiful golden light was shining over the altar. There was a plaque saying "Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted". They cried and found healing.
Next day, the court met again. Zach was found guilty and was to serve 54 life sentences without parole. The townspeople looked uncomfortable when the verdict was announced. The Devil looked victorious.
Monica meets Andrew. He tells her that even if there was going to be an appeal, Zach would not be around for it. Sometimes, the Devil wins the battle but ultimately, he would not win the war. Monica is upset. She says that she knows Zach is innocent. She can't bear for him to suffer so much in prison for something he did not do. She makes the decision that she would stay with him to protect him, even if it means forgoing her promotion. She goes to visit Zach in prison where she reveals that she is an angel. She tells him of her decision and reminds him that God loves him and would be with him always. All he had to do was ask God and God would remain beside him.
Back at the cafe, Joey is upset. He asks if he'll ever see Zach again. He says that Zach was going to give him more kittens. The townspeople tease him saying that he never had kittens in the first place so he can't get more. But Joey reveals that he had kittens. He hid them in the school basement so that he wouldn't have to face disapproval. Monica hands him his teddy bear. He tells them about how he was in the basement on that day, playing with his kittens. The Devil appeared to him and persuaded him to turn up the heat so that his kittens wouldn't get cold. Joey did so. The pressure in the boiler grew too much and it had exploded.
Now the people knew that Joey had caused the explosion. But it wasn't his fault because he was mentally slow. It was the fault of the Devil that made use of his vulnerability to hurt the town. Zach had known this. Joey had told him when he told him about the kittens. Zach was defending and protecting Joey with his silence.
Meanwhile, the sheriff went to Zach's cell to bring Zach. He was due for a prison transfer. He found the cell empty, as if no one had been in it at all.
Monica shows up at the cafe. The townspeople refused the real estate agent's offer to move. They decided to stay and help each other. The doctor reveals that the cafe lady is pregnant. Monica says that the baby could be the last child born in Ascension, or it could be the first of a new generation. The townspeople have begun to heal. Life is coming back.
The scene changes to the desert. Monica has successfully completed her assignment. She is to be promoted. She and Tess share a teary goodbye again. Tess reminds her that as long as they both love, they will always be together, for eternity. Monica just wishes that she could talk to Zach again and tell him something. Tess says that she can, and gestures to a point in the distance. Zach is standing there. But he seems changed. He's glowing with a brilliant golden radiance, standing against the beautiful mountains. Monica recognises him for who he truly is - God. Tess told her, God was indeed there on that fateful day. He had personally come to bring those children home.
Monica goes up to him and she apologises for not recognising him before. She asks why she didn't recognise him. God replied that he knew she would do anything for him, but would she do anything for a stranger? He knew now that she would. She was willing to give up everything to help a stranger. Greater love hath no man - or angel - who'd give up his life for another. He praised her, good and faithful servant, who had done his work on earth and did it well and now her promotion is her reward.
Monica returned to say goodbye to her angel 'colleagues'. Andrew gives her something to remember their friendship. Tess gives her a set of car keys, to the car that she used to drive. Monica is frightened. She can't imagine driving that car without Tess being around. But Tess reassures her that everything will be fine. The angels vanish. Monica gets into the car and drives off along the desert highway.
The End.

what is your theological worldview?
![]() | You scored as Modern Liberal. You are a Modern Liberal. Science and historical study have shown so much of the Bible to be unreliable and that conservative faith has made Jesus out to be a much bigger deal than he actually was. Discipleship involves continuing to preach and practice Jesus' measure of love and acceptance, and dogma is not important in today's world. You are influenced by thinkers like Bultmann and Bishop Spong.
